Women's Co-operative in Qamata Assisted with 20ha Potato Project

Qamata Potato Project

In 2015/16, the CHDA, in a partnership with PotatoSA, established a community vegetable project in Qamata, where a women’s co-operative from Qamata was assisted with planting of 20ha of potatoes.

PotatoSA provided high-quality seed, and CHDA provided social facilitation and project management support, as well as provision of agricultural inputs, and identification of market for final output.  The harvest was sold from the gates, and the bulk was sold to the Kei Fresh Produce Market in Mthatha, as well as distributed through supermarket / food retail outlets.

A total of 20 women from Qamata benefited from this initiative.
