QAMATA BUTTERNUT PROJECT

Mthyinthyini Co-operative in Qamata Assisted with 20ha Butternut Project

Qamata Butternut Project

In 2016/17, the CHDA launcheda community vegetable project in Qamata, where a co-operative from Qamata was assisted with planting of 20ha of butternuts.

The CHDA provided social facilitation and project management support, as well as provision of seed, mechanisation support, agricultural inputs, and identification of market for final output.  The harvest is being sold from the gates, and the bulk was sold to Spar and Boxer supermarkets in Cofimvaba, as well as Jimmy Spar in Mthatha.

A total of 40 beneficiaries from Qamata benefited from this initiative.
